Our masterclasses will introduce you to the techniques of bicycle mechanics

MasterclassCost of the masterclasses: £49 per person, including tea, coffee, squash and biscuits which are available throughout. This includes your own copy of the Big Blue Book of Bicycle Repair (normally retails for £24).

Bring along your bicycle and wear clothes you don't mind getting greasy. We recommended that you bring a notepad for taking notes, and cameras are permitted.

Course Dates 

  • 13th November 2011
  • No classes due to business expansion plans during December, January and February.
  • From April 2012 we are re-formatting the classes to 3 sessions of 2 hours (total 6 hours) from 7pm until 9pm on a Thursday evenings.

Masterclass sessions will include the following

 

  Please bring your bicycle with you as we will be working on them per the different points shown below. The Masterclasses are designed as hands-on modules for giving you the knowledge to do maintenance and roadside repairs to your bicycle. All tools are supplied. It is not deemed as a qualification as a Cycle Technician, but it is a good introduction!

  • Set up bikes to work on and introductions
  • Wheels – Show the easiest way to remove both front & rear wheels, tyres and tubes and what to look for. An explanation of your tyre pressures & removal of cassettes and hub bearing types explained
  • Headsets – Explain types and the differences – show how to dismantle and what to look for in wear and tear
  • Chain sets – Show the removal of the chain sets and re-fit. Pedal descriptions explained and removal demonstrated
  • Bottom Brackets – Removal of a bottom bracket and pointers of wear
  • Seat Post – How to adjust all seat posts including suspension
  • Gears – Adjustments, alignment importance, chain details on wear
  • Brakes – Adjustment, pad wear alertness
  • Wheel Truing – Demonstration on how to get spokes replaced and wheels trued to ride. How to replace a rim on the road & punctures
  • Each session will conclude with a Q&A section and a chance to have answers to those questions that you did not get the answer during each section
