Birdy folding bikes from Germany
It wasn't just the catchy name that we like, but also the Teutonic engineering of this great range of folding bikes. Sitting between Arnimal and Brompton, the Birdy range offers full folding with full suspension to give a resonable, carry onto a train size, when folded but with a pretty much ride anywhere capability. Just ask Rob as he has used one to regularly ride accross London to catch the train from Euston to Telford and then down the Silken Way to the shop, with a little off road diversion at times!

The least expensive Birdy is the World Sport at £879.99. But it still retains the famous German build quality and ease of use. The price is achieved by utilising the original (older) frame design, which is easier to manufacture. The bike has 8 speed derailleur gearing with a twist shift and has mudguards and includes a kickstand for comfort and ease of use. This is a great basic Birdy and is really what we have been waiting for - great for commuting and leisure rides, and will fit in with most Cycle to Work scheme budgets.

Each model is excellently spec'd for it's given purpose with choices of derailieurs, 8spd Alfine hubs, Rofloff hubs and disc or hydraulic brake options. There's also a hybid version using a Bionix unit, plus lots of useful accessories such as a pump concealed in the seat post, an integrated Abus lock, SON dynamo hubs and even a carrying case that converts to a luggage trailer!
