The Ironbridge Gorge Tweed Ride 2012

bike hire no hill-tweed_2

Ironbridge is to have it's very own 'Tweed Ride'  in the Ironbridge Gorge next year at the World Heritage Festival in September 2012 to celebrate the fantastic history of cycling, the Gorge's link with manufacturing steel, and the link of the modern Olympics to it's origins in Much Wenlock where William Penny Brooks developed the Olympian Games.

What's it all about?

Having fun and turning the clock back to the romantic age when bicycles ruled the road, things were slower, sedate and a tad more stylish.  So there's time to plan your costume (tweed would be great, Victorian or Edwardian, or maybe go modern and go flapper for the woman (ladies) and suitable sporting attire for the chaps (gentlemen) or ultra modern 1940's or 50s!, but the watch words are - NO LYCRA).

For your mount you'll need your very oldest bike or old style of bike, so if you don't have one, start foraging in sheds, garages, charity shops and you could even try the internet.  Restore it yourself or bring it to us. If you haven't got a bicycle suitable we can help you by supplying you with a British made bicycle from Pashley.

For some inspiration and ideas take a look:  here at other rides around the world.  Here for chaps and here for ladies and here for lots of photographs, we hope taken on film!

And of course it will be family friendly

More updates to follow.
