Download the Ring a Ring a Roses Map A 3 to 5 hour ride that leaves the Bicycle Hub on the NCN 45 towards Coalport where you will cross the river Severn by the Memorial Footbridge and follow the road to the end of the Gorge. Turn left here - do not try to ride this hill (unless you are an experienced cyclist), and take the 6 minute walk up the steepest and shortest hill out of the Gorge. The route then takes you to Brockton where you will turn RIGHT and then left to Ryton and on to Albrighton. At the A49 you will need to take care turning right and then left immediately to David Austin Roses, famous for their smelly roses. Pop into their rose garden or enjoy lunch and English tea in the lovely tea room. Leave the Rose Centre and turn left out to a small roundabout (very odd in the middle of the countrside!). Take the third exit passing the occupied windmill on your right. The route takes you past Patshull Hall, a hotel with fantastic grounds. Turn left and follow the road to a turning to Badger, where for a while you will be cycling on the Shropshire/Staffordshire border, and arrive in Badger which is a simply gorgeous setting with a duck pond and thatched cottages - a quiet village. Ride out of Badger to Beckbury and downhill to Ryton again. Climb out of Ryton and turn right to Grindle and through the village of Kemberton. Follow your route back via Brockton to the Bicycle Hub. Total distance 25 miles |
